The dermatology clinician is a frequent prescriber of antibiotics, especially for patients with acne. As antibiotic resistance becomes more of a concern, how can acne patients be best managed if an oral antibiotic is needed? This lecture will cover the varying oral antibiotic choices available today and their differences. Comparisons between broad-spectrum and narrow-spectrum antibiotics will be highlighted. Pros and cons of different members of the tetracycline class of antibiotics addressed and comparisons will be made between: doxycycline, minocycline and the newest tetracycline antibiotic, sarecycline.

Emmy M. Graber, MD, MBA is the Founder of The Dermatology Institute of Boston, a private practice in Boston, Massachusetts. With over ten years experience, Dr. Graber treats a wide range of dermatologic issues and specializes in acne and cosmetic dermatology. She is currently an Affiliate Clinical Instructor at Northeastern University and has extensive experience teaching students of all types.
