STORYLINE:
An improvised explosive device IED went off while a US military convoy was driving in Haqlaniya district in Haditha, 300 kilometres( 180 miles) west of Baghdad on Thursday, according to eyewitnesses.
The blast set a military vehicle on fire, said eyewitnesses.
Thick smoke could be seen rising from a burning vehicle.
Later, a burnt out military vehicle was seen at side of the road - the scene of the blast.
It was apparently the same vehicle which was on fire.
There was no word on casualties as the US military has not confirmed the incident.
Haditha has recently witnesses pitched battles between insurgents and US troops.
Five US soldiers were wounded when a suicide car bomber attacked their convoy on Thursday, between Beiji and Tikrit, 130 kilometres (80 miles) north of Baghdad, the military said.
Four of the soldiers were evacuated to a military medical
facility and one returned to duty.
None of the soldiers suffered life-threatening injuries.
A plume of smoke was seen billowing from a burning vehicle and parts of the wrecked car littered the blast scene.
Also on Thursday two Iraqi officers were killed in a drive-by shooting on in Kirkuk, 90 kilometres north of Baghdad, according to local police.
The men were identified as Colonel Rahim Othman Saed, director of the anti-terrorism directorate in Kirkuk, along with another officer, Major Ghanim Mohammed.
