Step 1: Reach Haridwar or Rishikesh
Haridwar and Rishikesh are two major cities in Uttarakhand that are well-connected by road, rail, and air. The closest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is about 20 km from Rishikesh. From Haridwar or Rishikesh, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Sonprayag, the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath.

Step 2: Reach Sonprayag
Sonprayag is the last motorable point before Kedarnath, and it's about 220 km from Rishikesh. You can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Sonprayag, which is located on the banks of the Mandakini river. From here, the trek to Kedarnath begins.

Step 3: Trek to Kedarnath
The trek to Kedarnath is around 16 km long and takes around 6-8 hours to complete. The trail is well-defined and passes through dense forests, steep inclines, and picturesque meadows. Ponies and palanquins are also available for those who are unable to walk the entire distance.

Step 4: Reach Kedarnath Temple
Once you reach Kedarnath, the temple is located at a short distance from the main market. The temple complex also includes several other smaller temples and shrines, which are dedicated to various deities.



It's important to note that the trek to Kedarnath can be challenging due to the high altitude and rugged terrain, and it's recommended to undertake the journey only after consulting a doctor and ensuring you are physically fit. Proper gear and equipment such as sturdy shoes, warm clothing, and rain gear are also necessary.
