Galliano Masini - Giovanni Malipiero - Giuseppe di Stefano - Gianni Raimondi – ‘MIGNON Ah! Non credevi tu’
Galliano Masini was one of the heirs of the Italian bel canto tradition. Giovanni Malipiero has a good sense of abdominal breath support, and his high notes possess a vocal tremolo that comes from the vocal cords. He did not forget the principles of Italian bel canto, despite the more forward singing technique of his predecessor, Masini. Di Stefano used the open-style singing technique of Italian folk music, and while he sang well, anyone who tries to imitate this approach will lose abdominal breath support. He began leading younger generations away from the principles of Italian bel canto (Carreras and Pavarotti were his followers). Gianni Raimondi was the last emperor of Italian bel canto. He absolutely refused to follow the shouting and loud singing methods of his time, always defending Italian bel canto. After his passing, when we look back, we realize that Italian bel canto was completely defeated, and there are no more excellent tenors to be found.
