Recording of online public information meeting held on 11/12/20. The Edenville Dam failure caused catastrophic impacts to residents and natural resources in Mid-Michigan. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MODT) contracted with the engineering firm AECOM to assess the remaining structure for risk of a secondary dam failure during future flood events. That study and a review of several alternative project designs resulted in a project plan that will be implemented prior to spring runoff and flooding. At this meeting, EGLE and AECOM staff will discuss the findings of the study, and the details of a project that will be undertaken over the next several months to reduce the risk of a second dam failure. The project will result in increased safety for downstream residents and the restoration of a portion of the downstream natural resources that were damaged by the initial dam failure.
