Here we're working through the middle and bottom zones of shoulder flexion, driving contraction through the muscles of the anterior and lateral shoulder.
I'm asking the shoulder musculature to keep the arm above 90 degrees for as long as it can, constantly scanning through different ranges to recruit all of the muscle tissue in the area. Once it can't maintain that angle any longer, I'll allow it to lower by a few degrees, and then ask it to hold there. I repeat this process down to the bottom of the movement.
The load and duration I use depend on the tissue I want to target.
For fast-twitch muscle, I'll select a load that causes me to fail to the bottom within 30-60 seconds. For slow-twitch muscle, I'm looking for that failure between 90-120 seconds or beyond.
