Not all bicycle supplies come from expensive bicycle stores or online bike internet site. Some are cheap bicycle supplies from your local grocery store, Walmart or hardware store. They can save you time and effort in performing bicycling maintenance and bike repair, at home or on the road. Here are a just a few:
1. Cue Tips:
o Cue Get at those hard to reach spots of grease and dirt. A cheap but very useful tool for hub overhaul.
o Clean residual from bar handlebars after bar tape removed.
2. Baby Powder:
o Before packing a spare tube in you bicycle pack, slightly inflate the tube, sprinkle with baby powder - rubbing your hand over it to evenly coat the tire, the wrap in plastic wrap or a zip lock baggy to keep it dry in the rain. The baby powder allows the tube to slide up and into the tire, preventing pinch flats. See: [ Ссылка ]
3. Rubbing Alcohol:
o Clean the rims of your wheels to remove the oil and grease after a rainy ride and thus, keep your brakes gripping firmly. Also, for clean dirt and grit off discs of disc brakes. But be careful of your finger.
o Also, great when removing or replacing mtb handlebar grips. Makes it easy to remove. And when installing, dries quicker than water.
4. Brass Bristle Brush:
o A semi-stiff brush with brass bristles can be used when cleaning your bicycle chain to remove dirt and grease from between links. Softer nylon bristles may not due the job and stiffer steal may damage the chain. See How to Pack a Spare Tube: [ Ссылка ]
5. Toothbrush:
o Use old toothbrushes for chain cleaning (see reference in upper right corner. Also good for those hard to reach areas to clean the dirt away. The toothbrush will not damage the frame but does a great job cleaning. Also see: [ Ссылка ]
6. Silicone Spay:
o Pedal squeaks where they meet the bicycle shoe? Spay a tad of silicone spay on the pedal (just a little bit). Does marvels. Available from your local NAPA or auto supply shop.
7. Goof-Off:
o From your Amazon or local grocery or hardware store. Use to get that extremely gooey stuff off the handlebars when replacing the bar tape. Be careful not to get it on your bike decals (also great to take off labels stuck on new wine glasses). Also great for removing grease or grime from cork handle bar tape. Place a small amount on cloth and wipe away grease. See: [ Ссылка ]
8. Shoe Mink Oil (p.s. for the environmentalist, use Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP leather Conditioner that contain bees wax ):
o Use either of the above for your bike shoes to protect & clean the leather and make them look & last longer. Apply like shoe polish every few months or after a rainy ride. See: [ Ссылка ]
9. Saran Wrap:
o Wrap your spare tire after coating with baby powder, in plastic wrap or a zip lock baggy to keep it dry in the rain. See our video How to wrap your spare tube to be compact and waterproof except use Syaan Wrap: [ Ссылка ]
10. Reusable Zip-Ties (the long and thicker ties):
o Great tool to hold brakes close to the rim as you align the toe in or replace the derailleur cables.
o I've used these ties to temporarily repair bike rakes, saddle bags, keep broken spokes, fenders' loose housing and cables out of the way. Keep a few in your saddle bag.
