I spend most of my waking time at work, and I’m very privileged and fortunate that I have my own office and that my work allows me to do what I want in it. I’ve been able to make myself an environment that is healthy for me and helps against feeling overwhelm. I have pleasing sound sensory things like fans and a white noise machine. I have a monitor in the corner that I play Spotify, or YouTube, or movies on. It’s just for background noise. To most these things would probably be a distraction, but, for me, it’s the opposite. It’s very pleasing to me.

My visual comfort things are what helps quite a bit. I have a memory board in my office. It’s one I had been building before I even knew I was neurodivergent. It has ticket stubs, stickers, lanyards, pictures of my favorite people, just a ton of visually pleasing things with wonderful memories attached to them. It’s a board of love. I also have pictures of people hung up and different Knick Knacks on my walls. It’s, as I said, something that to others may seem too stimulating, but it causes me joy and it helps bring me down. Not down like in spirit, but down from like a heightened or overwhelmed state.

Try to make yourself an environment that pleases you, wherever you are, and regardless of how much room you have. Use what you have to your benefit. I LOVE YOU!!!
