18.4.88: ISRAEL: "Holocaust Day" memorial marked by national two-minute silence and sombre ceremonies at Yad Veshem holocaust memorial, including speech by Prime Minister Ytizhak Shamir. Ivan Demjanjuk, allegedly "Ivan the Terrible" of Treblinka concentration camp, found guilty of crimes against humanity and the Jewish people. Demjanjuk, who faces death by hanging, collapsed and had to be carried into court.
