3 Famous Indonesian People In Aviation Industry

Baharuddin Jusuf Habibie / BJ Habibie
Habibie received his doctorate degree from the Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule, Aachen, West Germany (1965). He has a great contribution in making CN-235, N250, and N2130 projects. He also design a high pressure generator from the atomic reactor section for the Julich Atom Center. He also served as Director of Messerschmitt Bolkow-Blohm. In addition, he also contributes in the making process of the Tornado and Airbus A300 satellite, missile and military aircraft projects

Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo
Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo is known as a pioneer in the Indonesian aviation industry. Nurtanio and Wiweko Soepono built the Zogling NWG (Nurtanio-Wiweko-Glider) glider in 1947. This all-metal and Indonesian jet fighter was later named Sikumbang. Nurtanio later design and make another jet fighter, Kunang-kunang (VW engine), Grasshopper, Gelatik. Not only jet fighter, Nurtanio also has passion in making commercial plane, he also build the Arev (Revolutionary Fire) plane –commercial plane- which is made from the former Super Aero wreckage made in Czechoslovakia. Sadly, Nurtanio died during Arev's test flight on March 21, 1966. His name is now remembered as the name of the Nurtanio Aircraft Industry (now IPT-Nusantara).

Ramli Sumardi
Ramli Sumardi is the founder of an airplane living museum named Amerta Dirgantara Mandala. This museum was established at the Kalijati Lanud Complex. This museum collects most of historical planes and jet fighter in Indonesia including Piper Cub L-4J, Cessna 180, T-6G and AT-16 Harvard, Grumman Goose, Lockheed 12, Dornier DO-28, Cessna 207, PZL-104 Wren.
