After 33 years of service and nine at the helm of the state's largest force, Des Moines Police Chief Dana Wingert is starting a new chapter.
Wingert announced his retirement back in May. Now, he is handing the reins over to Michael McTaggart, a 25-year veteran of the department.
In an interview with Local 5 News, he called the summer 2020 protests "unprecedented" and that his officers "kept their composure under a very difficult time."
