For the past week and a half at Teahupo’o, in a range of surf conditions, a super eclectic bunch of surfers have been working their ways toward peak form — trying to set themselves for one of the great events of their lives. Some of this crew are world professional champions, some are virtual newcomers to this level of competitive skill. Most are somewhere in between. All will soon be surfing in the Olympic Games round one heats. Here’s a look at some of the intensity on show prior to competition. See if you can pick the form — and hear from some of the spectators out here at the End of the Road, as they assess what they’re seeing and wonder who’s going to wear the gold.
