Authorities in western Wisconsin are working to clear the scenes of multiple major crashes on Interstate 94.
About 40 vehicles were believed to have been involved. Officials previously believed more than 100 vehicles were involved.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says icy roads are likely a factor.
A look at the Wisconsin DOT road conditions map indicated the western part of the state had ice-covered highways. As of Thursday night, the highways were listed as "Good Winter Driving."
