What is entrepreneurship, and what does it take to launch a startup? In this episode of Curiosities, Murray Hurps, Director of Entrepreneurship at UTS, dives into startups, innovation and the entrepreneurial journey.
As head of UTS Startups, Murray is dedicated to increasing the number of student-led startups emerging from UTS and strengthening the dynamic startup ecosystem in the Ultimo precinct. Just six years ago, 30% of UTS students aimed to pursue entrepreneurship. Today, that number has grown to 57%, with 9.5% of students now graduating while running their own startup.
In 2023 alone, UTS startups helped create more than 1200 new paid jobs and provide 950 students with hands-on learning through internships and in-subject project work.
Murray brings more than 20 years of experience in roles across various ventures and organisations. Notably, he led Fishburners as CEO, expanding it from 100 desks to 750 and supporting 845 startups. He also co-founded Startup Muster, Australia’s largest startup ecosystem survey and directed Westpac's data-focused accelerator, FUELD.
If you're curious about entrepreneurship or wondering how to turn your idea into reality, don’t miss this episode.
