A stroke is a traumatic event, both to the Stroke Survivor, but to those around them.
A stroke can be traumatic to the lives and the relationships around those that have had the stroke.
Only recently has there been more research about how to better support the Partners / Spouses of those that have had a stroke.
Agencies like the March of Dimes are instrumental in providing support for those helping family members deal with long term chronic illness, such as stroke.
This is the first video in a series about the importance of self care for those supporting the Stroke Survivor. Be that Spouse, Partner, Husband, Wife or Friend.
Partners of stroke patients perceived most care giving burden in terms of feelings of heavy responsibility, uncertainty about patients’ care needs, constant worries, restraints in social life, and feelings that patients rely on only their care.
This video will explore six interrelated themes:
Experiencing a profound sense of loss.
Adjusting to a new relationship with a spouse.
Taking on new responsibilities.
Feeling the demands of care giving.
Having to depend on the support of others.
Maintaining hope and optimism.
