The Bullseye Snakeheads (Channa Marulius) have been living in south Florida for a little more than 24 years. The first reported catch took place in October 2000. This species has been adapting and coexisting with the native species pretty well. FWC research found that they haven’t been a threat to native species and are finding their place in the south Florida food chain, that’s the reason why catch and release in the same body of water where caught is perfectly legal. You just can’t take them alive with you and relocate them or keep them alive in a live well, a cooler or at home as pet. These measures have been taken so people don’t help the non-native species spread faster.
