Eyewitness videos showed the dramatic moment when a fire at an Indonesian fuel storage facility grew before culminating into an explosion on Friday (March 3) night in capital Jakarta, killing 13 people, officials said.
Dramatic footage showed fire and smoke rising in the near distance where Pertamina's Plumpang fuel storage depot was located. Shortly after, flames shot up into the night sky before sound of an explosion rang out.
The fire, which started at around 8 pm (0100 GMT) on Friday from a fuel pipe at the fuel storage depot, quickly spread to nearby houses and sent residents in the densely populated area into panic. Residents living nearby could smell the fuel around 30 minutes before the fire, local media reported.
