T'puram: The Kerala High Court will pronounce the verdict today afternoon in the controversial SNC-Lavalin corruption case. The verdict will be announced at 1.45 pm. The review plea is being heard by the Justice Ubaid bench. The CBI has filed a revision petition challenging the acquittal of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, dating back to the time when he was Electricity Minister during a previous LDFgovernment. The CBI contended in the revision petition that by discharging Pinarayi and other accused in the case, the special court had misused its authority. Pinarayi and 6 others were acquitted by a Thiruvananthapuram special court. The HC had reserved the verdict after the completion of arguments by the CBI and the counsel for the accused. The CBI case was that Pinarayi Vijayan, while serving as Electricity Minister, hatched a criminal conspiracy to award contract for the renovation and modernisation of the Pallivasal, Sengulam, and Panniar hydroelectric projects to SNC-Lavalin at an high cost. The CBI also alleged that KSEB had entered into a deal without inviting tenders.
