First time at Donington park driving on the national circuit. The day started off as you would expect in England, freezing cold and wet. The weather did clear up late morning and the track had fully dried up in the afternoon which meant I could try and put in some fast laps.
This was the first outing on the newly installed Alfaworks race blocks. They’re an aluminium spacer that sits between the tub and the upper & lower arms at different widths. They essentially give you more camber, 1.65 degrees to be exact so nothing crazy. I could definitely feel more grip on initial turn in & through the corner. I felt confident carrying more speed into the corners but due to the bad setup I was running at the time, the back end was all over the place. Since this trackday, it’s been fully set up with ride heights adjusted by Matt at Spires and it drives spot on now.
I did get brave and turned TC off thinking I could manage. I ended up spinning twice, the second time, I hit the gravel trap at McLeans which absolutely shredded the paint on the door, sill & bumper. I also ended up ripping out a chunk of arch-liner completely. I got back to the pits and with the help of my mates, we ended up clearing all of the gravel out in about 40 mins. All part of the fun 😁.
