Section 4: Beyond the Face is all about love and fecundity; two relations with the Other that go beyond the encounter with the face. Love is analysed as being at the limit of immanence and transcendence, a going beyond the Other that leads back to the “I.” Fecundity (having children), on the other hand, turns out to be a true transcendence because while I am my child, my child is also an Other.
