Scott Turnage, of G3 Sportsman, is with Fle Fly Tackle Company owner Jeff Williams on Oklahoma’s Grand Lake to see if they can use their electronics to find catch some post-spawn (late spring, summer) Crappie. Williams shows Turnage the importance of good boat electronic when he locates a deep brush pile stacked with nice slabs. Williams rigs up a two-lure system outfitted with a 3/16-ounce “Big Eye” jig head on top, a ¼-ounce “Big Eye” jig head on bottom and two different Fle Fly Crappie Kicker colors – “Lemon Pie” and “Firecracker.” Using heavier jig heads in post-spawn conditions allows anglers to quickly drop jigs down to deeper depths where crappie are normally found in late spring and summer. Using the vertical jigging method, it doesn’t take Williams long boat several big spawned-out white crappie.
