🎉 Get ready to dive into the holiday spirit with Tokyo's most festive event of the year! Join us at Yoyogi Park in Shibuya for the spectacular Santa Parade, where the magic of Christmas comes alive with vibrant floats, joyful music, and a sea of Santas spreading cheer. Whether you're a local or a traveler, this parade is a must-see, offering a unique blend of traditional and modern Japanese holiday celebrations. This event is a winter wonderland like no other. So, is Tokyo's Santa Parade the most festive event at Yoyogi Park? Let's find out!
If you're looking for a bit of festive fun with a purpose this November, look no further than Santa Parade Tokyo. The charity event was first held in Tokyo in 2018, and involves participants dressing up in Santa costumes and either completing a 4.3 kilometer fun run, or a two kilometer walk.
The event's participation fees (¥3,300 for adults, ¥2,200 for high school/university students, and ¥1,100 for children from 3 years old to junior high school age) go towards both domestic and international children's charities, exemplifying the Christmas spirit of giving. The fee also includes a Santa costume, but if you already have one feel free to bring it along.
The city got a major dose of holiday cheer as the Santa Parade Tokyo 2024 participants made their way through Tokyo's Shibuya and Harajuku districts on Nov. 17.
Around 2,500 people took part in the charity event that uses proceeds from participation fees to send Christmas presents to children battling illness in Japan and medical care to the Maasai tribe in Kenya.
Before the parade started, singer Maki Oguro took the stage to perform the parade’s official theme song “Santa Run Run Run” and energized the crowd.
The parade featured not only participants dressed as Santa, but dogs in reindeer costumes riding skateboards and dog-shaped robots bringing early Christmas cheer to the streets.
Nanami Komatsu, 18, a student at Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, was involved in organizing the event. She aspires to eventually develop pediatric medicine.
“I'm happy that children in the hospital will receive Christmas presents and that's why I wanted to take part. I hope this activity spreads even further,” she said.
This year, gifts are scheduled to be delivered to 23 hospitals in Tokyo, Osaka, and other locations. Osaka's own parade is scheduled for Dec. 1.
Event Date: Nov. 17, 2024 at Yoyogi Event Plaza Shibuya Tokyo
