Dr. Christina Christian has joined the Special Education & Interventions Department as an Assistant Professor. She has 28 years of public school experience working with students identified as having Behavioral/Emotional Disorders. Christina has 20 years of research and professional work experience helping schools develop and implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) and 7 years of research and work experience helping schools understand the fundamentals of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Her research interests include: increasing African American parent involvement in schools, improving parent-teacher communication, and developing practical tools for parents and teachers to use in preventing behavior/emotional disorders in young children. Christina has written books to support parents: ‘Re-Engaging the Village: the Essence of Parenting’ and ‘Socialized to Rebel: Changing the Course of America’s Children and Youth’ and young children ‘Freddy Learns to Follow Directions at School’ and ‘Freddy Learns to Follow Directions at the Store'.
