Day one of the 5G spectrum auction concluded with the government receiving bids worth Rs 1.45 lakh crore. The earnest money deposit indicated a total bidding capacity of Rs 1.91 lakh crore.
As expected, there was no excess demand in any bands as all bids were placed at reserve prices. There was no competitive bidding, due to significant spectrum supply by the Government of India. Bids were seen across all the 22 circles for the 5G spectrum bands – 700 MHz, 3,300 MHz, and 26 GHz. While limited demand was seen, mostly probable by existing incumbents in 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, and 2,500 MHz spectrum bands.
