Typically after a surgery you will have a dressing around the suture line and a support around the plaster. Depending on the type of surgery you undergo, depending on the volume of surgery you undergo, there may or may not be drains. Depending on the drains that are there, then you will have a dressing around the suture line once the drains have come out, then it is time for you to wear a proper supporting bra. Is it absolutely necessary to wear a surgical bra? No it is not. Your own existing clothes can be used. It is good to use a sport bra or you can use a bra without an underwire. If there is an underwire it is better to make a small nick and pull out the aluminium foil. The idea being the hard surface doesn’t press against this suture line and cause pain or cause any friction on the suture line that can cause lot of complications. Otherwise any other spots bra is possible. Otherwise any surgical bar will enhance to your comfort level and if you don’t mind adding it to your total cost of treatment then you can go in for a custom made surgical supportive bar which you use for a period of 3 to 4 weeks.
