There are several different types of damages that are available in an employment discrimination case. It really varies depending on what statute, what law you bring your claim under. But some of the most common examples are back pay, which is the difference in the amount of pay that you should've received had you not been fired, for example, by your employer, and the amount you actually received.
There's also compensatory damages which are called emotional distress damages as well, which are designed to compensate you for any emotional harm that you suffered as a result of the employment discrimination. There are also punitive damages, and that's where if your employer has acted with particular egregious or reckless type of discrimination. Those damages can be awarded to punish the employer for that.
Finally, there is front pay, where if you are able to prove to the court that you're not going to be able to get another job for, let's say, a year, you may be able to get one year's additional pay as a monetary damage.
