Afsaneh Barzi, MD, PhD, City of Hope, Duarte, CA, comments on the future of liquid biopsies in the management of colorectal cancer. Whilst liquid biopsies are currently being investigated in colorectal cancer, their use in clinical practice is currently not yet approved. Additional research into pan-cancer screening techniques are underway, where they may complement or replace current colonoscopies and stool tests. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2023 Gastrointestinal Cancers (GI) Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
