The Bullenbeisser is a robust and muscular dog, characterized by a powerful build, broad head, and strong jaw. Its short, dense coat could come in various colors, including brindle and fawn. The breed is known for its athleticism, courage, and resilience, which made it well-suited for the demanding tasks of hunting large game and protecting its owners.
Originally, the Bullenbeisser is used to track, hold, and subdue large game, such as wild boar and bulls, making it a formidable hunting companion. Its strong bite and determined nature were key traits for these activities. However, as hunting practices evolved and other breeds emerged, the Bullenbeisser gradually became less common.
The breed's characteristics and role are absorbed into modern breeds, particularly the Boxer, which inherited many traits from the Bullenbeisser.
