On November 8, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
closed the Student Direct Stream (SDS) for study permit applications.
The Nigeria Student Express Stream has also ended.
Initially launched in 2018, the SDS
aimed to expedite study permit applications for students from 14 countries,
like India, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
Applicants were required to present language test results
and a Canadian Guaranteed Investment Certificate worth $20,635 Canadian dollars.
Now that the SDS is closed, all study permit applications
must go through the standard process,
leading to longer processing times and potentially lower approval rates.
Processing times for study permits differ by country,
with applications from India taking around eight weeks as of November 8.#canada
