Dylan Teuns from Belgium and team (BVT) is the 2022 Flèche Wallonne race champion.

Teuns was quoted saying "I have no words for it, unbelievable. "I've always dreamed of this. I was in the perfect position at the start of the Wall. At 500 meters I was closed in by men from Bora and Movistar. But, I knew where Valverde was going to accelerate, he always does it in the same place. That was perfect for me. I felt I had some left over and I persevered. I've never been so strong in the spring. In the summer I'm always good, but in the spring I alternate super with less. Now I'm very consistent. It was exactly 5 years ago yesterday that I was on the podium here. I've always believed that one day it would work. It was a good approach, yes. But I handled it wisely. I have never been so good and so consistent in the spring. Finally the reward comes! I reassembled Valverde, but he came up again and I felt that I still had a bit of surplus. I thought: now I have to push on. If I let him come back, he would have had a mental advantage. Now I may have taken him mentally. I have always dreamed of a classic victory. If that hadn't happened when I said goodbye, I would have been disappointed. But I can tick this one off now. Liège is another tick. Let me try it on Sunday."

Teuns werd geciteerd en zei: "Ik heb er geen woorden voor, ongelooflijk. "Ik heb hier altijd van gedroomd. Ik bevond me in de perfecte positie aan het begin van de Muur. Op 500 meter werd ik ingesloten door mannen van Bora en Movistar. Maar ik wist waar Valverde zou versnellen, hij doet het altijd op dezelfde plek. Dat was perfect voor mij. Ik voelde dat ik nog wat over had en zette door. Ik ben nog nooit zo sterk geweest in de lente. In de zomer zit ik altijd goed, maar in het voorjaar wissel ik super af met minder. Nu ben ik heel consequent. Gisteren was het precies 5 jaar geleden dat ik hier op het podium stond. Ik heb altijd geloofd dat het op een dag zou lukken. Dat was een goede aanpak, ja. Maar ik heb het verstandig aangepakt. Ik ben nog nooit zo goed en zo consequent geweest in het voorjaar. Eindelijk komt de beloning! Ik heb Valverde weer in elkaar gezet, maar hij kwam weer boven en ik voelde dat ik nog een beetje overschot had. Ik dacht: nu moet ik doorzetten. Als ik hem terug had laten komen, zou hij een mentaal voordeel hebben gehad. Nu heb ik hem misschien mentaal genomen. Ik heb altijd gedroomd van een klassieke overwinning. Als dat niet was gebeurd toen ik afscheid nam, zou ik teleurgesteld zijn geweest. Maar deze kan ik nu afvinken. Luik is een andere teek. Ik ga het zondag proberen."
