From Tchaikovsky's opera "The Queen of Spades". In Act II, Yeletsky sings a heart-rending love song to his fiancee, who is secretly attracted to (and eventually has an affair with) Yeletsky's acquaintance Herman.

I am aware of some errors in my attempt at providing a phonetic English equivalent of the Russian original, and will provide an update once I have a better grasp of this beautiful (but difficult for native English speakers) language. In the meantime I encourage all singers who attempt to sing in Russian to obtain some formal training in its diction. Where that is not an option, the best resource I have found is Dr. Craig M.
