Agartala, July 05 (ANI): After Mumbai and Chennai, Tripura is all set to emerge as the third internet gateway of the nation after commissioning of the submarine cable connectivity through Cox Bazar port in Bangladesh. An optical fibre line is being laid from neighboring Bangladesh to Tripura by the state-run telecom operator Bharatiya Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) after the two countries signed a deal recently. Chief General Manager (CGM) of BSNL North East-I circle, DP Singh, called it a historical feat for the remote northeastern region of India. He added that the connectivity in Tripura was at par with Chennai or Mumbai. The 10 GB link will be opened up through Akhaura (in Bangladesh) at a cost of 8 crores rupees (USD 121,613) and will be as good as Delhi, Bangalore or Chennai. Singh said that a formal announcement would soon be made by Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
