The All England Club have announced their intention to build a retractable roof over No 1 court in time for the 2019 tournament.
They also announced a 40 per cent increase in prize money for the 2013 Wimbledon Championships - making it the largest pot in the sport's history.
Players at this summer's grass court event will receive a total of £22.6 million, an increase of £6.5m over 2012.
The winners of the men's and ladies' singles titles will each receive £1.6 million this year. Roger Federer and Serena Williams took home £1.15m in 2012.
Philip Brook, Chairman of the All England Club and The Championships, said: "I think we have to accept that the world that we live in is a world where we are competing with other international tennis events.
"We've chosen to make these increases this year because we think it's the right thing to do. It's an important moment in time and we wanted to demonstrate to all the players how much they are appreciated by Wimbledon."
