India and China agreed to a de-escalation after months of dialogue and more than four years after the skirmish in Galwan.
But experts say the reason China may hit the pause button has a lot to do with Beijing wanting to keep its focus on an incoming unpredictable Trump administration than strictly about making peace with New Delhi.
Analysts who have followed the India-China relationship say Beijing could buy itself some time before it continues to needle India, not just on the border in the Himalayas but also in the waters of the Indian Ocean and how prepared India remains will decide the next turn.
