Immediately, after Hillary Clinton became the first woman to claim the presidential nomination of a major U.S. party, Bernie Sanders delegates walked out of the convention center and held about an hour-long sit-in at a media tent.
Outside the convention center, police started detaining Sanders supporters who climbed the 8-foot fences at the edge of the secure zone around the Wells Fargo Center.
It wasn't immediately known how many people had been detained.
Groups of Sanders supporters and protesters are standing outside of a gate around the subway station that serves the Wells Fargo Center.
After an hour the Sanders delegates and supporters ended their sit-in, while protests outside have calmed down, too.
