Vice-president Nangolo Mbumba says recent advancement in Namibia's energy sector sets the country apart as it strives to fast-track economic development and boost its diverse industries.
Mbumba made this statement as he invited potential investors to come and exploit Namibia's vast natural resources at the United States-Africa Summit taking place in Gaborone, Botswana this week.
Addressing delegates from Africa and the United States, comprising private sector executives, international investors, senior government officials and multilateral stakeholders, Mbumba said the discovery of oil and harnessing of green hydrogen are indications of Namibia's ambition to become Africa's sustainable energy powerhouse.
"Namibia is effectively harnessing our natural resources to contribute not only to regional energy equity, sustainability, and security but also to the decarbonization of our planet," said Mbumba.
The vice president is leading a Namibian delegation that includes senior government officials such as the minister of agriculture, water and land reform, Calle Schlettwein, the minister of industrialisation and trade, Lucia Iipumbu and deputy minister of finance and public enterprises, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende.
He said the country has a lot to offer in investment opportunities and aspires to become a one-stop centre for investors.
"Come to Namibia and make Namibia your preferred investment partner. In Namibia, you are not only assured of the vast economic potential and opportunities that await you but also of predictable systems, processes, and institutions that guarantee a seamless investment experience," said Mbumba.
The session was held on Thursday under the theme 'Namibia - becoming the sustainable energy capital of Africa. The four-day event which was attended by 1000 delegates started on Tuesday this week, and ends on Friday.
