Why we do Rice payasa on Aadi Friday
A traditional payasam made on Aadi velli (Ashaada Shukravara).
Sun rises exactly on East is tamil month Chithirai 1 (Equinox)
When Sun rises exactly on North East is Aadi 1 (Solistice)
Again it comes to East on Aipasi 1 Diwali (Equinox)
Then it raises on South East on Thai 1 Pongal (Solistice)
All these seasonal changes are celebrated as festivals welcoming the climate.

From Ayurveda context it is a period of Pitta
In Ashad month with continuing Pitta aggravation (though reducing) diseases like typhoid, jaundice, and diarrhea continue to occur but due to start of rainy season rainy disease like malaria, dengue, chikungunya and electrical accidents gets added. Also with falling heat but with increase in humidity the heat index rises and hence the cases of heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke continue.
Vata characteristics will dominate the physical attributes (thin boned) and Pitta (quick and easily hot-tempered) for emotional attributes.
Vata-Pita remedies
Rest is the number one medicine for calming Vata-Pitta.
Meditation
. Diet:
• Smooth, moist, sweet and warm foods will soothe Vata-Pitta.
• Avoid too much raw, dry, spicy foods (e.g. bread) and too much alcohol and caffeine
• Grains (like oats and rice), soups, sweet fruits (like figs, coconuts, apricots) ghee and cooked vegetables are great meal options.
Recommendations for keeping Vata-Pitta's balanced:
HERBS Triphala: Triphala is a combination of three fruits (haritaki, bibhitaki and amalaki) and has been used for centuries for healthy elimination, great for Vata's irregularity.
Wild Ginger & Turmeric: Vata's anti-inflammatory and digestive besties.
Matcha: A coffee alternative to kickstart the morning, with a "slow release" of caffeine, great for not speeding up Vata's anymore than it needs to :)
Ashwagandha: To help with the Vata-Pitta stress and often feeling "up in the air", this adaptogen aka “Indian Ginseng” has been used for centuries as a non-toxic and stimulant-free anxiety and sleep aid.
Burdock Root: The Burdock plant is an ancient root vegetable that’s been widely used in Asia as a remedy for a variety of bodily ailments, but specifically great for Vata-Pitta's irregularity in elimination and detoxification.
People apply Mehndi designs on their hands and feet in Ashad month in many places of India. The main reason behind is to get rid of the effects of climate changes that may occur in this month (June – July).
