Newton, Mass. Director of Urban Forestry explains how to prune an American elm, one of several planted in spring of 2010 by the Newton Tree Conservancy, which are ready for their first pruning. Until now, Newton Citizen Pruners have mostly worked on trees with more defined central leaders, as opposed to vase-shaped trees such as elms or zelkovas.
