Egyptian voters in nine governorates have returned to the polls to select parliamentary candidates in a host of run-off races left over from the November 28 first-round election. Only four candidates out of a possible 56 won outright during the initial balloting.
Voters in each district will choose two candidates over the course of the Monday and Tuesday voting. Such invididual-race districts will make up one-third of parliament's lower house, the People's Assembly, while list districts where parties run set slates of candidates will make up two-thirds.
Most run-offs are between Islamists: candidates from the Muslim Brotherhood's powerful Freedom and Justice Party versus those from the hardline Salafi Nour Party.
