In this video I show you how to start your kata at competition. The rules displayed here are appropriate for WKF competitions. Other governing bodies may have a different way in which you should start your kata,.
You can be disqualified if you forgot to bow to the head judge just before and after the kata. It is really important to practice doing this in your dojo and at home, because doing it in a competition environment can make inexperienced people forgot what they are doing, and they can look very awkward at the start of the kata.
It is also important to leave enough room for your opponent so you both can perform simultaneously. Setting off the tatami will not get you disqualified. But knocking into your partner can during the performance can.
