Post void Residual Urine
Post-void residual (PVR) urine is defined as the amount of urine left in the bladder at the end of micturition. It can be measured by catheterization or non-invasively by ultrasonography. PVR varies in a given individual, hence multiple measurements are often necessary. There is no evidence-based maximum volume that is considered normal.23 The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) guidelines state that, in general, a PVR less than 50 ml is adequate bladder empting and a PVR more than 200 ml is inadequate emptying.
