We traveled for several hours of winding passages, through miles of tunnels and past many cliff side villages to get to the mountainous town of Tornareccio were we met our honey suplier Lucca Finoccio and his lovely wife and daughter, owners of Apicoltura Luca Finocchio Honey. We where treated to an impressive tour and had a dozen different honeys, every shade from clear to dark brown.
Check out the cool photos of their families old equipment from the 1890's to today's modern facility.
They travel with their hives for hundreds of miles in order to make all of the different varieties. They place the hives by sunflower farms, chestnut trees. melons, orange groves and of course a large variety of flowers in order to get such a wide array of flavors, textures and colors. All of them painstakingly made, all of the honeys crazy delicious. Obviously most of these varieties are not made in the United States. We paired all of the varieties with many different cheeses, nuts, several desserts, hard salamis, lamb and beef for a truly eye opening and delicious experience.
Let's get together soon and do a tasting like we had here in Italy so you can see and taste what I am talking about. Send me your email from this link and I will keep you posted on our events tastings and classes:
