Former celebrity preacher Azman Syah Alias, popularly known as PU Azman or Cik Man, was sentenced to six years in jail and one stroke of the rotan after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage boy seven years ago.
This marks the fourth sentence for the 43-year-old, who had previously been convicted by the Klang and Seremban courts for similar offences with sexual intent.
Sessions Court judge Rasyihah Ghazali ordered Azman Syah to serve his sentence starting today after he changed his plea to guilty for one of two sexual assault charges levelled against him two years ago.
The judge ordered him to undergo rehabilitation counselling in prison and to be placed under police surveillance for two years after his release.
He was charged with sexually assaulting the teen, who was 17 at the time, between midnight and 2am, at a room in a homestay in Jalan Kebun Klang in September 2017.
The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and whipping.
The other charge was taken into consideration (TIC) under Section 171A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
