An incredible leap forward in cancer research by a gifted teenager using Google and hard work.
Upon losing a family friend to pancreatic cancer, Jack Andraka decided to study this cancer more closely. Initially just using Google as his primary research tool, Jack’s investigation ultimately resulted in a new pancreatic cancer test that is 168 times faster, 26,000 times less expensive and potentially almost 100% accurate. Wow!
In 2012, Jack won the prestigious Intel Science & Engineering Fair. In February 2013, Jack spoke at TED in California. And while his youth (Jack is 16 years old) is remarkable, you will be struck most by his passion for science. As they say, he’s one to watch.
Thinking Digital is a conference on technology, ideas and our future. It's been described by The Guardian as "the UK's TED".
