Neon Shed Communications Advent Tip #16
Using Tangible Gifts at Work
In today’s tip I explain how to show your appreciation at work using tangible rewards.
Giving the right gift to a person who appreciates tangible rewards can send a powerful message of appreciation and encouragement. On the other hand, Giving a gift to someone who doesn’t appreciate gifts can be met with indifference or may be offensive.
Did you know that only 6% of employees have gifts as their primary language of appreciation and 68% report that it’s their least favourite? However they are often given as rewards for people’s efforts around Christmas time. How much time and resources are wasted every year on something that may not be valued by your workers?
Understanding your team and how they feel appreciated will save you energy and energise them to continue to do their best. Missing the mark can cause harm by communicating a negative message and does nothing to improve relationships.
I score only 3% on gifts and I'm a minimalist so I don't value tangible rewards very much, especially when there’s no thought behind them - how about you?
