Dallas Mavericks training camp Day 2 offered some clarity on a number of Mavericks injuries including Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Kessler Edwards. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd said that Kleber and Edwards were both dealing with ankle sprains, and Luka Doncic’s left calf contusion is of no concern to the Mavs. Luka will miss Mavs vs. Grizzlies to begin the 2024 NBA preseason, but will be ready for Mavs vs. Spurs when Victor Wembanyama comes to the American Airlines Center to open the 2024-25 NBA Season. Jason Kidd also said that his goal for the year is to have Doncic handle the ball less, and get his usage rate down from where it was before.

Jason Kidd on the Mavericks’ roster depth this season:
It’s a great problem to have. I do think it’s a little deeper than the 2011 championship team. There’s a lot of ways you can go, yes we have to keep these guys happy but when you talk about the one goal of winning the championship, everyone has to sacrifice.

Jason Kidd on what he hopes for Luka Doncic this year:
He’s always felt he’s had to do everything… This year, I’m going to talk to him about hopefully letting someone else bring the ball up. Getting him the ball in different spots on the floor without having that challenge of harassment when he has to bring the ball up. I think that will make him stronger, we’ll see what he says.
