What Did The Film Hacksaw Ridge Leave Out About Desmond Doss?
Who Was The American Hero Who Fought WW2 Without A Weapon?

Desmond Doss, the man who was named by his Captain ‘one of the bravest men alive’, it’s obvious in the film Hacksaw ridge, is a courageous man. But there’s one vital part of Doss’ story, a part that showed Doss’ true valiant nature, that was left out of the film. During one battle, Desmond Doss received brutal shrapnel wounds to his legs, and when a stretcher came to take him to safety, he promptly rolled off it to insist that another wounded man go first. Not only this, but while then waiting again for a stretcher, a sniper shot his left arm, shattering the bone. Even after two brutal injuries, Desmond then found the strength to drag himself back across the dangerous ground to safety. Mel Gibson reportedly left this part out of the film because he thought it was so heroic that viewers wouldn’t believe it happened.
