HOW TO CLEAN A DIRTY POND, CLEANING MY RAISED POND ON THE BALCONY POND - WITH UNDERWATER VIEW
Every 3 to 6 months, we like to give our balcony pond a good clean, but it's difficult doing it with the fish still swimming around and getting in the way! We also clean the external filters, the sand, scrub the pebbles and syphon out the water with a fish tank / aquarium vacuum, before doing a water change with dechlorinator.
The fish in the pond include goldfish, shubunkins, butterfly koi carp, and fancy fantails, such as calico orandas, red cap orandas and black moors. It is important to remove and debris from the bottom, to ensure a good water quality and no ammonia, while the biological filtration assists with this and the mechanical filtration with UV light makes the water sparkle! Additional aeration is provided by air pumps with airstones and a waterfall in the corner. All of this results in crystal clear water - no green water or new pond syndrome with dirty pea soup water here!
