Dr. Norsworthy looks at terminating a cereal rye cover crop at 2, 4, and 6 weeks prior to an early May planting of soybean in the Midsouth. Differences in weed suppression by the cover crop as a function of the amount of biomass present at planting or termination timing is discussed as well as the need to continue using residual herbicides in combination with the cover crop to minimize weed emergence and selection for herbicide resistance.
