This video brings a clear brief idea about diabetic prescreening tests.
The most commonly used tests are FBS, RBS, GTT, GCT, and HbA1C.
FBS- This is the most popular test, which requires overnight fasting of 8 - 10 hours.
Even the FBS test is performing on an empty stomach, the patient can take a glass of plain water to avoid dehydration.
RBS: This is the most commonly used test, as it doesn't require fasting and can be done at any time of the day.
GTT: This test requires overnight fasting and after taking a blood sample, the patient has to take 75 gm of glucose in 200 ml water and three more blood samples are collected. The first sample is taken after 1 hour from the glucose intake and the second and third samples are collected next half-hour intervals.
GCT: This test is commonly performed during pregnancy to screen for gestational diabetes. This test is taken after giving a 50 gm glucose solution. The blood sample is collected after 1 hour. Only one sample is needed.
HbA1C: This test gives a clear indication of how well your diabetes is being controlled. For this test, fasting is not necessary.HbA1C reading is your average blood sugar level for the last 3 months, which is 90 days period.
